A Day in Bratislava is not all bunkum

We join our "free" walking tour of Bratislava and are shown around the various sites-most of which we have seen already but we just were unaware of their significance .

Our next project is to find the WW2 bunker on the Slovak/Austrian border. We catch the wrong bus and are dumped in some sort of Stalinist industrial estate; with the help of a kindly bus driver and my almost genius like ability at foreign languages we backtrack and find the correct bus. End of the line is in a featureless field. We follow signs to the bunker but after an hour we suddenly discover we are now back in Austria, surrounded by apricot trees-very flavoursome. More backtracking then a walk acoss an abandoned building site and literally down a garden path we find the bunker. The Germans need not have been worried by this bunker as they would never have found it.

The tour of the bunker is led by a rather eccentric but dedicated old guy who hates the English and French for selling the Slovaks out to the Germans.

We make  our way back to town and enjoy another low calorie meal at the Flagship restaurant.
