E bikes and stairs don't mix

 The first part of today's trip is by train.


We ride to the railway station and wonder which platform we'll need--fortunately it is platform 1 which requires no stair management; did I mention these bikes weigh about 30kg each!


We get off at Komponom and to my horror I realise we need to ascend a giant staircase to get off the platform-there is no way we can do this! And then another group of wayfarers appear and say “Don't worry Richie will take your bikes!” and then this man mountain appears, an Irishman by all accounts, who lifts the bikes as if they were feathers and carries them(one at a time) up the stairs. When I offer to help he looks at me withscorn and says"just leave it to me"-I obey.

I have nominated Richie for sainthood; without him we would still be standing on the platform.

The next component of the day is a 58km ride to Esztergom. 





Today's temp is a mere 30C.

We ride to a pleasant tavern and indulge in another fine meal.



In the evening we take in the local sights





and stop for cake and beer-how fine

 It turns out that it is summer here and like the song goes , Paris sizzles. Our buddies are determined to show us all of Paris in one day; we leave our digs at 7am(sic) so we can beat the crowds at Notre Dame The rest of the day is a blur of trips on the metro; walking long distances in 35 degree heat; lots of old buildings with balconies only on the 2nd floor; churches; lots of stairs(and stares); loss of litres of vital body fluid; a fine lunch involving duck gizzards; proof existence of deity etc Note light effect proving existence of god   As far as we are concerned we have seen all of Paris and we now don't ever need to return.  Dinner is French bread and French cheese!

En route a gay Pareee

 We depart Melbourne late, making sure we have no hankies in our pockets which would necesitate a full scale lockdown of the terminal. Thanks to the use of powerful pharmacologicalagents the trip is made bearable. We arrive dazed and confused and negotiate what would be a very efficient customs experience if only the machines were working. Taxi to Rue Duret where we are greeted by our Antarctic buddies. They insist we immediately start our tour of Paris. Thank goodness we don't suffer jetlag! Our dinner is vin et fromage. following which we collapse into a heap.

The Rinse Cycle: Part the 2

  Still wondering what to do with commercial quantities of cheese We make our way down to the opera house for a tour of the insides of said building. I ask the guide why they can't provide us with English printed programmes? He can give no rational explanation. We stop for refreshments at Freud's favourite coffee house and then off to lunch of my favourite Viennese delicacy: Beuschel -a nutritious stew of chopped heart, lung and any other bits of random stuff lying around the kitchen. At 5pm we attend our next opera, Die Walkure, a mere 4 hours in length.  The basketballers blocking my view before are not to be seen but directly in front of me sits a former All Black lock forward. I know there has been some activity on the stage because my beloved told me it was quite the spectacle. I take out my anger on a programme seller for advertising programmes in English when they are all in foreign! What Robyn could see What I could see! I think I am developng pressure ares on my but...
