Tour de Danube-Day 1The Road Goes on Forever

We vacate our very comfortable premises and hook up with our bike delivery guy who hands over our far from light bikes. He is somewhat sceptical about our plan to do the first 200km of our journey by train; but what would he know, when we are veterans of the Viennese public transport system! So by using our extensive knowledge of the elevator systems of the Sudtirol Bahnhof we manage to get our bikes into the carriages-the locals are impressed and we are showered with praise and applause.

We get off the train at Donauinsel station and after some initial navigating issues

we are on the trail. Being Austria there is a schnitzel house evry 2 km(apparently this is a legal requirement)

We pass beaches along the Danube where we spot many Austrians unencumbered by the burden of clothing. The only wildlife on view is the Austrian Pink Danglers and the Austrian Mature Floppy Boobies!

The route leaves the banks of the beautiful blue Danube of Vienna and after passing stunning oil refineries there is about 25km of dead straight bike track perched on top of a flood levy-there is no shade and the temperature is in the balmy 30s.

We arrive hot and bothered at Hainburg, stable our steeds and enjoy Austrian pizza for lunch.

We rest and then enjoy Frittaten Suppe followe by a post prandial stroll.
